Basic Reference Work:
This is the definitive study of gravestones and stonecutters in this region and in this period. None of this material is available elsewhere. It should become a standard reference for both specialists and non-specialists.
Schools in the region can utilize this source for instructing their students in local history. Even the smallest village has an old burial ground or two. The searchability and sortability of the CD will allow any interested party (resident or tourist) to print out a list of sample gravestones for most of the 713 burial grounds of the region. This sample would provide the representative work of many stonecarvers. Even 6th-8th graders could survey these cemeteries and identify similar stones carved by the same men. And the book would provide biographies of these stonecutters.
